13 Days Flying Safari - All Inclusive Meru/ Laikipia/ Lake Victoria/ Masai Mara

DAY 1 Windsor Hotel, Nairobi

On arrival in Nairobi you will be collected from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and taken to the Windsor Hotel, Nairobi

DAY 2 Elsa’s Kopje, Meru National Park

Collected from your hotel at 6.30am you will be transferred to Wilson Airport to catch the 7.45am AirKenya schedule flight to Meru. There nostalgia is easily invoked by the film ‘Born Free’ and George & Joy Adamsons’ lions. Nine cottages including one spacious double family cottage with its own separate pool are built into the kopje using natural stone and wood wherever possible. After an afternoon swim or siesta, guests may enjoy an extended afternoon game drive.

DAY 3 Elsa’s Kopje

Meru National Park is transected by many rivers and is renowned for its Elephant herds and rare Northern endemic species e.g. Gerenuk, Reticulated Giraffe and Oryx. Both Greater and Lesser Kudu live around the kopje and one can also search for big cats and the elusive Rhinos which now breed in the park.

DAY 4 Elsa’s Kopje

Take an early morning guided walk in the bush or an extended morning game drive with picnic breakfast to look for Cats, Elephants, and Hippos and Crocodiles along the many small rivers. The afternoon maybe spent relaxing at the pool or even take a massage at the lodge. Evening sundowners out on a game drive allows you to appreciate the beauty of this seldom visited wilderness where Lions still roam.

DAY 5 Sosian Ranch, Laikipia

After an early breakfast a short 35 minute charter flight takes you to Sosian Ranch in the heartlands of the Laikipia plateau. This working ranch shows how wildlife and cattle ranching can still exist side by side without disruption. With 7 double cottages, a swimming pool, billiard room, tennis court, horse riding and day & night game drives there’s plenty to see and do as well as take in the local inhabitants- Elephants, Aardwolf, Eland, Oryx and Grevy’s Zebra.

DAY 6 Sosian Ranch

Exploring the plateau and surrounding plains one can walk, ride or game drive without restriction. More than 300 species of birds and an abundance of game, including four of the big five can be found on Sosian. Spectacular waterfalls offer alternative swimming along the Ewaso Nyiro River. Excellent horse riding here gives guests commanding views across the panoramic hills and plains.

DAY 7 Rusinga Island Lodge, Lake Victoria

After breakfast our charter plane takes you on a short flight to Rusinga landing at the adjacent airstrip you will be met by the hosts. This 8 bedroomed lodge is set in a veritable oasis of huge fig trees and lush green lawns tapering down to the lake shore. Bird life is prolific with nesting fish eagles overhead and a myriad of colorful water birds in abundance. Guests may choose to relax in the Spa massage/beauty treatment centre under the supervision of a professional therapist, swim in the pool or take part in more active water sports such as waterskiing and fishing before enjoying a four course dinner by candlelight, on the jetty if they so wish.

DAY 8 Rusinga Island Lodge

The day can unfold with an early morning walk to the nearby archaeological sites where prehistoric Pro-Consul hominid remains were discovered. After a hearty breakfast at the edge of the lake guests may wish to seek the challenge of fishing for giant Nile Perch on the fully equipped boats. Following an afternoon siesta or Spa treatments guests can enjoy sundowners out at the nearby Bird Islands as the sun sets directly over the world’s second largest, freshwater lake.

DAY 9 Rusinga Island Lodge

Choosing to explore the local uninhabited islands colonized by Egrets, Herons, Giant Monitor Lizards and Otters, guests may decide to visit the local fishing village and observe traditional fishing as done for centuries. As an option guests may wish to visit early morning, nearby Ruma National Park for a bush breakfast and be lucky enough to see Kenya’s only population of Roan Antelope and maybe Leopards.

DAY 10 Saruni, Masai Mara

A short 30 minute charter flight takes you to the Mara. Saruni is a deluxe, intimate lodge set in a conservation area bordering with the Masai Mara National Reserve. With accommodation for 12 guests in six cottages, it is set in a remote valley at the heart of this most exciting African wilderness. Owner-hosted, Saruni offers a new concept of safari: the thrill of real adventure lived in harmony with the Masai warriors coupled with high standards of style and comfort. The cottages, with flushing eco-toilets and running hot/cold water are furnished with colonial antiques, Persian carpets and African art. Outside, Elephants, Buffalos, rare birds and colorful flowers put on an incredible show. It’s a privilege to be part of it.

DAY 11 Saruni, Masai Mara

From Saruni you have private access to the wonders of the Masai Mara, but off the beaten tracks. You can explore the secret plains, mountains and rivers of this famous region aboard special open Land Rovers and on foot, walking with professional guides and Masai trackers. From its many verandahs, at an altitude of 2000 meters above sea level, you enjoy a breathtaking view over eternal Africa.

DAY 12 Saruni Masai Mara

Freedom, safety, adventure and contemplation.

Our mountains, on the Northern edge of the Mara, are the final destination for the famous Great Migration that each year, between July and October, adds millions of animals to the resident herds of Antelopes.

DAY 13 Departure

After breakfast and a short game drive you will connect with the 11.00am Safarilink flight back to Nairobi. On arrival you will be transferred to your Nairobi hotel or to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your onward departure.
